Hope Mills star defensive lineman Greg Gilmore visited Clemson for Junior Day in January. The trip to Tigertown impressed the 6-4, 275 pound prospect.
“It was a good visit. I went up there with a big head and I expected a lot and that is what I got. It really impressed me. The facilities were nice,” said Gilmore.
Greg has been wanting to visit Clemson since they first offered.
“Clemson was the first school to offer me. I have been wanting to go there for a long time,” said Gilmore.
Coach Brooks keeps in touch with the prize recruit.
“I was good friends with coach Steele. Coach Brooks and I talk all the time now,” said Gilmore.
What did the top lineman think of new defensive coordinator Brent Venables?
“He came in and sat down and we talked for like 45 minutes. He told me what he wants to do at Clemson. He comes from Oklahoma and he has done a good job,” said Gilmore.
Greg’s mom was not able to make the visit so he hopes to make a return visit with his mom.
“I am definitely going to try to get back up there with my mom and dad. They don’t really have any favorites schools. She wants me to go where I feel comfortable. Of course she wants me to look at the academics,” said Gilmore.
The offer list is growing quickly for the North Carolina standout.
“I have 18 offers now,” said Gilmore.
Greg will take a look at North Carolina’s new staff this week.
“I am going to UNC on Wednesday. I wasn’t all that interested in them under the old staff with what was going on honestly. They have a new staff and they are trying to close the borders. I might as well see what they have to offer. I was pretty stuck on NC State if I stayed in North Carolina. Now that they have a new staff I will check them out,” said Gilmore.
When asked about his leaders, Gilmore responded, “I think if I had to give favorites right now it would be LSU, Clemson, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia Tech and NC State in no particular order.”
Don’t expect an early decision from the top lineman.
“I will probably announce at the All-American game or just before,” said Gilmore.
More trips are planned for the next few months.
“I am going to Virginia Tech on the 18th. Then I plan to go see LSU and Florida,” said Gilmore.
