TCI Hitter-of-the Week                    #9 Phil Pohl

The junior catcher from Cooperstown, NY went 4-for-10 (.400) in three games last week for Clemson. Pohl had a double, homer, two HBPs, and two runs to go along with team-highs in RBI (4) and total bases (8).

The junior from Norwich, CT had a strong start to his season in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. In 6.0 innings, Leone allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four to earn the win over UAB.

Weekend Notes:

Clemson, ranked as high as #16 in the nation, took two of three games from UAB at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers outscored the Blazers 14-7 despite being outhit .283 (28 hits) to .247 (22 hits). On the weekend, Clemson also totaled nine walks and had six hit-by-pitches against 12 strikeouts. The Tiger pitching staff had a strong weekend with a 2.33 ERA and allowed only seven of 39 baserunners to score. Clemson had a .983 fielding percentage for the weekend thanks to just two errors in the series.

As TCI followed in detail last season, Head Coach Jack Leggett is continuing to work his way up the all-time wins list by a head coach at a Division I school. After this weekend, Leggett stands 15th in place of all-time wins and is sixth in terms of wins among active head coaches at a Division I school.
