The 2012 baseball season is underway around the ACC.  Each week TheClemsonInsider.com will take a look around the league.

 

 

 

 

 

The ACC went 35-11 in non-conference action last week, highlighted by four teams having undefeated weeks (Maryland – 3-0, Miami (FL) – 4-0, North Carolina – 3-0, and Virginia – 4-0). This week is another big week, highlighted by three series matching ranked teams (#2 South Carolina vs. #15 Clemson, #1 Florida @ #8 Miami (FL), and #21 Southern Cal at #4 North Carolina).

 

Boston College                    Overall: 4-2

The Eagles dropped an extremely tough road series at Central Florida this past weekend. This weekend Boston College continues it’s 17-game season-opening road trip with a unique series at Florida Gulf Coast (Thursday, Friday, Sunday) and has it’s annual exhibition game with the Red Sox on Saturday.

The Blue Devils had a full week with six games and were only able to split the contests, including dropping two extra inning games over the weekend to Canisius. This week Duke hosts Eastern Michigan on Tuesday before welcoming George Washington to town for a three-game series.

The Seminoles, ranked as high as #9 in the country, had a strong week with three win over 2011 NCAA tournament squads, but did drop a contest to Florida International for the first time since 1990. This week Florida State welcomes a sold Maine squad to Tallahassee for a three-game series.

The Yellow Jackets, ranked as high as #10 in the country, had a strong week (going 3-1) and scored 10+ runs in all three wins. This week Georgia Tech hosts Kennesaw State on Wednesday before welcoming Rutgers to Atlanta for a three-game series for the ninth season in a row.

The Terrapins had another great weekend, going 3-0 in the Keith LeClair Classic, and are off to their best start since also starting 5-1 in 1987. This weekend Maryland opens its home slate with four games in three days against Manhattan.

The Hurricanes, ranked as high as #8 in the country, had a strong week winning a single game at Florida Gulf Coast before a relatively easy three-game sweep of Albany. This week Miami (FL) hosts Florida Atlantic on Wednesday before welcoming #1 Florida to town for a huge three-game series.

The Wolfpack shutout UNC Wilmington in midweek action before traveling to Myrtle Beach, going 2-1 in the Baseball at the Beach Tournament (losing only to host Coastal Carolina). This week NC State hosts Campbell Tuesday before traveling to Wilmington for four games in the Hughes Brothers Challenge.

The Tar Heels, ranked as high as #6 in the nation, had a strong weekend against Wright State, outscoring the Raiders 34-3 in three games. This week North Carolina hosts perennial Big East contender St. John’s (NY) Tuesday before welcoming #21 Southern Cal to Chapel Hill for a big series.

The Cavaliers, ranked as high as #14 in the country, won an extra inning game over William & Mary in midweek action before taking care of Monmouth last weekend. This week Virginia hosts Liberty Tuesday before welcoming Wright State and Seton Hall to town for a tournament this weekend.

The Hokies had a good showing in Myrtle Beach last weekend in the Baseball at the Beach Tournament, winning three of four games. This week Virginia Tech travels to High Point Tuesday before opening their home slate with a four-game, three-day series (Sat-Mon) against Yale.

The Demon Deacons bounced back from a tough opening stretch (1-4) by winning all three games in the Wake Forest Invitational. This week Wake Forest hosts UNC Asheville Tuesday before hosting Eastern Michigan and Marshall in the three-team Wake Forest Tournament.

The Panthers rebounded from a tough opening weekend by winning two of three games at Wofford. This weekend Pittsburgh continues its 16-game road swing to open the season by playing three games in the Coastal Carolina Invitational against Coastal Carolina, Illinois, and Big East mate St. John’s (NY).
