The 2012 baseball season is underway around the ACC.  Each week TheClemsonInsider.com will take a look around the league.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ACC went 35-11 in non-conference action last week, including six of its teams having undefeated weeks (Virginia Tech 5-0, Wake Forest 5-0, Georgia Tech 4-0, Maryland 4-0, Florida State 3-0, and NC State 3-0). This weekend conference play gets started highlighted by a top-20 matchup featuring #6 North Carolina @ #19 Clemson and a series between two upstarts, #21 Maryland @ Wake Forest.

 

Boston College                    Overall: 6-3

The Eagles won a tough series at Florida Gulf Coast this past weekend. This week Boston College continues its 17-game season-opening road trip with five more games in Florida; midweek contests at Florida International and Florida Atlantic before opening ACC play at #13 Miami (FL).

The Blue Devils rebounded from a tough week with a strong 3-1 showing last week. This week Duke faces two in-state opponents on the road in midweek action before opening conference play against #8 Florida State at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Seminoles, ranked as high as #8 in the country, had no problem with Maine last weekend. This week Florida State travels to #18 Central Florida for a two-game midweek series before heading to Durham to face Duke in their first conference series.

The Yellow Jackets, ranked as high as #9 in the country, had another great week with four home wins. This week Georgia Tech travels to inter-city foe Georgia State before traveling to Raleigh to open ACC play with a good NC State squad.

The Terrapins, ranked as high as #21 in the nation, had another great weekend and is off to their best start since 1968. This week Maryland hosts Delaware and travels to Navy in midweek action before traveling to Wake Forest for a big ACC-opening series for both teams.

The Hurricanes, ranked as high as #13 in the country, had a tough weekend in dropping all three contests at home to top-ranked Florida. This week Miami (FL) hosts Miami (OH) on Wednesday before welcoming Boston College to Coral Gables to kick off ACC play.

The Wolfpack had a good week despite a constantly changing schedule due to rain. This week NC State faces Davidson on Wednesday before welcoming #9 Georgia Tech to town in what is a big series for the home squad.

The Tar Heels, ranked as high as #6 in the nation, had a good week with a win over Big East contender St. John’s (NY) and a series win over #21 Southern Cal. This week North Carolina faces Davidson at home Tuesday and travels to Elon Wednesday before traveling to #19 Clemson for the only ACC opening-weekend matchup between ranked teams.

The Cavaliers had a week to forget, dropping three of four contests at home. This week Virginia travels to James Madison, a team it tied 4-4 earlier this season, on Tuesday before hosting Virginia Tech this weekend in the earliest ACC home games in school history.

The Hokies had a great week on the diamond, leads the conference in total wins, and are off to their best start since 1993. This week Virginia Tech has the midweek off before traveling to in-state foe Virginia to open ACC action.

The Demon Deacons had another great week and have now won eight games in a row, their longest streak since 2006. This week Wake Forest hosts Valparaiso for two midweek contests before welcoming #21 Maryland to town in what should be a big ACC series for both teams.

The Panthers traveled to the Coastal Carolina Invitational last weekend and were only able to get one game, a win over host Coastal Carolina, in due to weather. This week Pittsburgh continues its 16-game road swing to open the season with six games in the Snowbird Class in Port Charlotte, FL.
