On Saturday, Florida hosted one of its top targets in Immokalee, Fla., cornerback Mackensie Alexander. And after recently dropping his verbal commitment to Tennessee, Alexander has a new leader.
“I would say Florida is my leader right now,” Alexander said.
This was the Alexander’s third trip to Florida in as many months, but this one was different.
“I’ve been to Florida a lot, but this time I brought I brought my parents and little brother with me,” Alexander said. “It went really good as usual and we got to spend a lot of quality time with the Florida coaches and some of the players.”
With this being the first time for the Immokalee prospect’s parents to see Florida, what did they think?
“They really liked everything about Florida,” Alexander said. “When we got home they said they loved it and they loved how they were treated by everybody and how the coaches were interacting with them and showing them around. They got to see where I would live if I choose Florida and stuff.”
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Alexander missed Florida’s practice but that didn’t stop him from having a successful visit.
“We were running a little late that’s why we missed practice,” Alexander said. “But I got to sit down with (assistant) coach (Travaris) Robinson and coach (Will) Muschamp. We got to spend a lot time together as I was the last recruit on campus. They were telling how bad they wanted me and that I was the No. 1 corner on their board and stuff. Coach Muschamp said I would be a great addition to the team — he likes that I’m a playmaker and stuff.”
Alexander and his brother Mackenro Alexander have talked for a while now that they would like to play together. Florida has yet to extend an offer, but that could be changing soon.
“Coach Muschamp told my brother that he watched his highlight tape and that an offer could be coming soon,” Alexander said. “It would be huge if they offered him as we have talked about playing together a lot. If they offered, we would definitely have a lot to talk about between the two of us.”
Over the next several weeks Alexander plans to visit a few more schools to see what they have to offer.
“I’m going to Florida State this weekend,” Alexander said. “I’m trying to get up to Clemson soon with my parents and I plan to visit Florida again soon.”
