Sunday Clemson assistant Rick Ray was named the new head coach at Mississippi State. Clemson head coach Brad Brownell wished Ray and his family the best as they move to a new challenge.
“I’m happy for Rick and his wife, Breyana. We appreciate all of the things that they’ve done over the last two years to help our players and our entire basketball program at Clemson. We wish them nothing but the best,” said Brownell.
Coach Brownell hates to see Ray leave the Tigers, but knows Mississippi State is making a great hire.
“Rick is a terrific coach in every sense of the word. He is a consummate professional and is well-respected in the business. He is a relentless recruiter and has worked with some of the best Xs and Os coaches in the business, including Matt Painter at Purdue and Royce Waltman, who was my college head coach, at Indiana State. He has the ability to be both demanding with his players to make them better on and off the court, and still develop long-lasting relationships with them. He is a great hire for Mississippi State,” said Brownell.
The Tigers will begin searching for a replacement quickly.
“We will begin our search for a replacement very soon,” said Brownell.
