Clemson, SC – Thomas Brittle lifted the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Charleston Southern with a two-out single in the ninth inning to score Tyler Slaton from second.
The Tigers scored three runs on nine hits. Jay Baum and Mike Dunster were both 2-3 on the night. Richie Shaffer went 2-4 including a homerun.
Daniel Gossett got the start for the Tigers on the mound and Garrett Boulware got his first start as a Tiger behind the plate. Gossett went five innings giving up four hits, two runs and two earned runs. Mike Kent came in and pitched well for 1.1 innings not giving up any hits or runs. Joseph Moorefield faced one batter and gave up a hit. Jonathan Meyer went two innings and only gave up one hit and no runs. Patrick Andrews got the final two outs for the Tigers.
The Tiger took the lead in the first inning. With two outs Richie Shaffer hit a solo homerun to left field to put Clemson up 1-0.
In the bottom of the third the Tigers increased the lead. Tyler Slaton walked to start the inning. Jason Stolz singled to left advancing Slaton to second. Both players advanced on a wild pitch. Steve Wilkerson hit a sacrifice fly to score Slaton and put the Tigers up 2-0. Shaffer was robbed of a double by a great catch that could plated another run.
Clemson threatened again in the fourth. The Tigers had three hits and a walk in the inning but couldn’t score.
Charleston Southern tied the game in the top of the sixth as they plated two runs.
The game remained tied 2-2 until the bottom of the ninth. Once again Tyler Slaton walked with no outs. Jason Stolz bunted Slaton over to second. Steve Wilkerson flied out to center. With two outs Thomas Brittle singled to left scoring Slaton to give Clemson the victory.
The Tigers moved to 21-17 overall with the victory. Clemson will travel to Maryland for a three game series beginning on Friday.
