Clemson head coach Brad Brownell will be looking for a new assistant coach.  James Johnson’s stay at Clemson will be very short.

TheClemsonInsider.com has confirmed with a source that James Johnson will become the next head coach at Virginia Tech.

On April 19 Johnson was officially announced as a new Clemson assistant after leaving Virginia Tech.  Just days later Virginia Tech fired head coach Seth Greenburg.

Johnson was Virginia Tech’s top assistant and top recruiter when he left the Hokies to become an assistant for the Tigers.

Johnson was an assistant coach at Virginia Tech from 2007-11.  In his five seasons at Virginia Tech the Hokies averaged 20 wins and made four postseason appearances.  The Hokies went 9-7 or better in theACC in three of the five seasons.
