TheClemsonInsider.com caught up with Clemson head coach Jack Leggett following the Tiger’s 4-2 loss to College of Charleston Monday afternoon.
“It was a tough loss for us today. We didn’t come with our ‘A’ game on defense. We gave up a needless run in the first and a couple of needless runs in the fourth. Other than that, we play pretty good defense, hit the ball hard, and pitched pretty well. Our approach wasn’t very good, offensively. We couldn’t get anything going. Basically, we gave up some needless runs, and in a close ballgame, that can’t happen. They’re a good ball club. They played well overall and played some really good defense today.”
On Monday’s letdown
“Last night was one of our best games all season, but when we came back today, we didn’t have the same approach, for some reason. When we let up just a little, we’re not the team that we need to be.”
On how mistakes cost the Tigers
“We didn’t play good defense today. We gave up needless runs and that got us behind. We let that affect our approach offensively. We couldn’t get anything going. We didn’t play a good enough ballgame to win today.”
On the pitching performance this series
“We’ve pitched pretty well this weekend. They’re a good offensive team. They have some strong hitters in their lineup that we did pretty well against. They’re a good baseball team. There’s a reason they’ve won over 30 games this season. We played well the first two games, but just didn’t play great today. They deserved to win and we didn’t.”
On Tuesday’s starter
“We’re going to go with Mike Kent tomorrow and get him his first start of the year.”
