TheClemsonInsider.com caught up with Clemson head coach Jack Leggett Tuesday afternoon following the Tiger’s 9-8 extra inning win over Tennessee Tech.
“The great thing today was that we grinded hard; we grinded hard from the very beginning. It didn’t go great for us in the beginning, but in the sixth inning, we got ourselves back in the game. This was a grind game. I’m proud of the way we help our composure and battled our way back in it. David Haselden came in and did a great job, and I also thought Joseph Moorefield did a really good job pitching for us. Those were the guys that kept the game together for us. It wasn’t pretty but it’s a win.”
On Tennessee Tech
“Tennessee Tech is a good ball club. I’ve seen some good hitting teams come in this year. They’re one of them, Western Carolina and Georgia are other examples. These teams put the ball in play.”
On David Haselden
We’ve been playing pretty well the last month. We’ve had some up and downs, but overall we’ve been playing pretty well. It was good to see David Haselden step up for us today. He’s a great team player and I’m glad it worked out well for him today.
On playing four straight days
We played good over the last four days. We kind of let one slip yesterday against College of Charleston, but we’ve been playing good teams. Our midweek schedule has been tough this year. It keeps us on our toes. We don’t have a big margin for error right now. We have to play a lot of really good baseball to make it work. Today wasn’t the prettiest, but it worked out for us in the end.
On Shaffer’s homerun
“As soon as Richie [Shaffer] hit that ball, I knew it was out. He took a really good swing on it. I was glad to see it coming and he was ready to hit it on the first pitch. That’s huge for us. Later on in the count might have been more difficult, but he was ready to hit the first one.
