What to Expect: Clemson last faced the Furman Paladins in week three of the 2007 season. That matchup saw the Tigers defeat Furman by a score of 38-10. Furman is the closest Division 1 team Clemson can play with the two schools only being separated by 35 miles. The 2007 matchup saw the starting Clemson quarterback Cullen Harper have a very efficient and successful day. Tajh Boyd will look to duplicate the day of Harper and lead the Tigers to victory over the Paladins. In 2007, Harper was 16-19 for 266 yards and three touchdowns. If Boyd can duplicate this day, the Tigers should win easily over their fellow upstate opponents. The key to victory for Clemson will be for the defense to put the offense in good field position. This will allow the Tigers to be very balanced which will lead to passing and running success for the Tigers. If Clemson can keep Furman guessing expect Boyd as well as the Clemson running backs to have a big day. If Clemson takes care of business early, expect to see a number of reserves as well as young Tigers see the gridiron to gain experience heading into conference play.
