Columbia, SC – Jason Stolz hit two homeruns for the Tigers and Dominic Leone pitched one of his best games of the season as Clemson kept the season alive with a 5-3 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Dominic Leone got the start for the Tigers and pitched well. Leone went seven innings only giving up six hits, three runs and two earned runs. Dominic has six strikeouts with four walks. Scott Firth came in to start the eighth. Firth gave up a single and a walk but worked out of trouble in the eighth. Scott got three strikeouts in the ninth to seal the victory.
Clemson scored four runs on ten hits. Jason Stolz went 2-4 with three RBIs. Brad Felder was 2-4 with one RBI. Richie Shaffer was 2-3 on the afternoon.
Coastal Carolina took the lead in the first. A walk, a single and a sacrifice fly gave Coastal a 1-0 lead.
Jason Stolz tied the game in the third with a solo homerun to left center.
The Chanticleers clears took the lead again in the bottom of the third 2-1 on a homerun by Blackman.
Clemson took the lead in the fourth. Jay Baum walked to start the inning. With two outs Brad Felder doubled to right center to score Baum. Jason Stolz hit his second homerun of the season to put the Tigers on top 4-2.
Coastal Carolina plated another run in the fifth to make it a one run game.
In the top of the ninth Clemson added some insurance. Thomas Brittle walked with two outs and stole second. Richie Shaffer walked before Phil Pohl singled to center to score Brittle. Joe Costigan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jon McGibbon hit a fly ball to the warning track to end the threat.
The Tigers took a 5-3 lead to the bottom of the ninth. Firth struck out the side to end the game.
Clemson moved to 35-27 with the victory. The Tigers will play South Carolina later this afternoon in another must win game.
