Nuggets culled from the 26-14 win over N.C. State:

Kicker Chandler Catanzaro became Clemson’s career scoring leader. His eight points nudged him past Aaron Hunt (2000-2003).

Catanzaro made field goals of 49 and 45 yards and now has 22 career field goals of 40 yards or more, one short of the record 23 made by Chris Gardocki 1988-90.

“Everything went like clockwork tonight,” Catanzaro said, crediting his snapper, holder and offensive line. He said the 49-yarder was perhaps the most solid kick of his career, and credited his additional flexibility and whip to a yoga regimen.

Hot dates

From deep the vault of obscure statistics, Clemson’s record in games on Sept. 19 is 10-1, which is the best win percentage based on a minimum of seven games.

Also, Clemson’s record in games with N.C. State played before Oct. 1t5 is 10-1 since 1978.

Reversing a trend

Two of Clemson’s three wins in 12 ESPN Thursday night games are at N.C. State. The other was a 31-10 win in 2005.

Trips are wild

Clemson is 3-0 for the third straight year, the first time since 1928-30.

Paper or plastic (sacks)

With 12 sacks in three games, Clemson matched the start in 1999 when Tommy Bowden’s first team also had 12.

Vic Beasley had three sacks giving him five for the year and 13 for his career, six against NC State.

Freshman defensive end Shaq Lawson had three tackles for loss including his first career sack.  He is the first freshman defensive lineman to record three tackles for loss in a game since 2008 when DaQuan Bowers had three against Nebraska in the Gator Bowl.

Miracle cure

Tight end Sam Cooper, who sustained a torn ACL in the spring game, caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first half, his first catch of the year. Cooper now has three career touchdown catches, all on the road.

Another for Boyd

Tajh Boyd passed for three touchdowns to give him 79 for his career, tying him with Chris Weinke, a Heisman Trophy winner at Florida State, for second place on the ACC all-time list.

Thursday giggles

Sammy Watkins finished with 10 receptions for 96 yards, the third time he had had at least 10 receptions in a game.

On Thursday night last year at Wake Forest he caught eight passes for 202 yards.
