Player Spotlight: Jadar Johnson

While there’s plenty of information circling the internet about Louisville, Lamar Jackson and ESPN College GameDay, The Clemson Insider decided to dig a bit deeper into the dynamic individual personalities of Clemson’s student athletes.

In this edition of Player Spotlight, we get to know senior safety Jadar Johnson a little bit better. The Orangeburg, South Carolina native may come off as quiet to those who don’t know him, but he says he is actually pretty funny if you get to know him.

After reading through this interview, one can begin to understand why.

What is your favorite color?

“My favorite color is black. I have always liked black since I was little. My favorite team is the Dolphins and I would always wish like ‘Why don’t they have black jerseys? I want me a black Miami Dolphins jersey!’ I don’t know why I have always liked black.”

What food can you not live without?

“Chicken wings. I eat chicken wings like every day. I haven’t missed a day of eating chicken wings since I was like seven.”

What is your favorite movie?

“The first movie that came to my head was Friday. I love Friday. It is probably the funniest movie ever. If I had to pick a second one, I would say 300.”

If you could only binge watch one show on Netflix for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

When I’m not playing football I…

“I’m usually chilling with my girlfriend. She’s in the Army and she is stationed in Hinesville (GA). I like to go there a lot. We go crabbing, fishing, go to the movies and out to eat, just stuff like that. I love being with my girlfriend.”

How would your friends describe you?

“My friends, they would probably say that I am funny and aggravating,” he said laughing. “I like to argue a lot. I’m the one in the crew who thinks I know everything, so I will be the one arguing with everybody. To the outside people, I am real quiet, but I talk all the time to my friends.”

Who is your favorite celebrity?

“I would probably say Mark Wahlberg.”

If you could choose a walk-out song, what would it be?

“Like right before the game? I don’t know exactly what song, but it would definitely be a Kodak Black song. That is my favorite artist. I like to listen to him before every game.”

Do you have any hidden talents?

“I play the piano a little bit. I can’t sing that well. If you catch me in the shower, I sound pretty good though,” he joked.

What is something that someone would be surprised to know about you?

“Probably that I love animals. I mean I love animals. I had a pet raccoon one time. I just go out and try to play with wild animals. Like one time, I stay in Lightsey, so I was over there in Lightsey and there were some baby raccoons, and I had some Chick-Fil-A. I just sat it down by my feet and they just came up and were eating it and crawling on my feet and stuff. I just love animals.”

Tell me you have never played with the skunks in Lightsey.

“I have not messed with no skunks! I’m not trying to get sprayed or nothing, haha!”

What is your favorite animal?

“My favorite animal is a bear. When I graduate, I’m going to try to get me a pet bear.”

What is something you are going to miss most about Clemson?

“Just the family environment. Everyone just treats you like family here from Coach (Dabo) Swinney on down to just the locals that live in Clemson. I can go into Zaxby’s and just have a normal conversation with the locals. It reminds me of home a lot, so I will just miss the family environment.”

What has been your best memory at Clemson so far?

“Probably lake day during camp, my first lake day. That was probably like the best time I have had here.”
