Recruit reaction: 5-star Trevor Lawrence's commitment

Clemson landed a big-time player on Thursday night when Cartersville (Ga.) five-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the nation’s No. 1 prospect in the 2018 class, announced his commitment to Clemson.

In the aftermath of the big news, The Clemson Insider reached out to some of Clemson’s commits for their reactions to Lawrence’s pledge:

Matt Bockhorst, OL, Cincinnati, Ohio –

“It’s a great win for the program. Trevor is a great talent and his ability to lead a team is apparent with his recent state championship. I am excited to see how the 2018 class unfolds and I am doing my part to bring some more guys from Ohio down to Clemson.”

Chase Brice, QB, Grayson, Ga. –

“He’s a great person and player. We’re also good friends and excited that he joined the family!”

Noah DeHond, OL, Hightstown, N.J. –

“I’m pumped. Football is just like the free market. The greater the competition, the better the end product and that end product helps us win national championships.”

Tee Higgins, WR, Oak Ridge, Tenn. –

“Great! The QB competition in practice is gonna be unreal and fun for us WRs.”

Mike Jones, LB, Bradenton, Fla. –

“I’M HYPE!!!”

Amari Rodgers, WR, Knoxville, Tenn. –

“I feel great and it’s another addition to set up history in the near future.”

Baylon Spector, LB, Calhoun, Ga. –

“That’s huge!! I’m hyped.”

A.J. Terrell, CB, Atlanta, Ga. –

“It’s big for the Clemson family. Glad he chose us and it will be great QB competition down the road.”

Blake Vinson, OL, Citra, Fla. –

“I’m really excited for him. He made the right choice. This is going to be an incredible quarterback competition. Go Tigers!”

Jordan Williams, DE, Virginia Beach, Va. –

“A huge addition to the 2018 class. He is a great kid and can play. Has the potential to make an impact early.”

Florence (S.C.) 2018 five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas, who announced this week that he will decide between Clemson and South Carolina, also had this to say:

“It was pretty big,” Thomas told TCI. “He contacted me over the phone before he made his announcement. Me and Trevor are pretty close and he told me wherever he goes he wants to bring a good group of guys with him. So it has a big impact on my decision yes. That is a huge get for Clemson.”
