After winning a state championship with Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) High this month, five-star linebacker Owen Pappoe is starting to make plans for offseason visits.
The Clemson Insider caught up with the standout 2019 linebacker, who said a visit to Clemson is definitely on the docket.
“January will be Clemson, Georgia and ‘Bama for sure,” Pappoe said.
Grayson fell to Roswell (Ga.) in the Class 6A state semifinals a season ago before earning redemption with a thrilling 23-20 overtime victory over Roswell in the state finals on Dec. 10.
“It felt great,” Pappoe said of winning the title. “I got two more shots so I’ll make the best of them.”
Pappoe carries more than 30 offers, including ones from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder has developed a solid relationship with Clemson’s coaching staff.
“It’s pretty good. I talk to coach (Brent) Venables and coach (Mickey) Conn the most,” he said.
Pappoe said he knows new Clemson commit and Cartersville (Ga.) five-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence personally, and thinks he is a great addition to the Tigers’ 2018 class.
“That’s a great pickup,” Pappoe said of Clemson landing Lawrence. “He’s a baller.”
Pappoe last visited Clemson in October for the Louisville game.
He said he doesn’t have any leaders in his recruitment right now, though he plans to release a list of his top schools “soon.” He told TCI last month that Clemson will “deeply be considered” when he makes a decision in the future.
Pappoe is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 prospect in the 2019 class.
