Thomas coming to Clemson to make history

Shortly after announcing his commitment to Clemson, Xavier Thomas called The Clemson Insider to discuss his commitment. Earlier this week the franchise defensive end broke the news to the Clemson staff.

“I talked to Coach (Dabo) Swinney and coach Bates this week about committing on Saturday. At first Coach Swinney thought I was kidding. He, Coach (Brent) Venables and Coach (Todd) Bates were all excited,” Thomas told The Clemson Insider on Saturday.

Why did the nation’s top defensive player decide to pull the trigger today and end his recruitment.

“I just knew I wanted to go to Clemson and I wanted to lock down the opportunity to have the best class in history. With Trevor and Mike already on board we have a chance to have the best class,” said Thomas.

Saturday morning Thomas was already hard at work recruiting some of the other top players in the nation to join him at Clemson.

“I have already talked with some of the other guys like Zamir White, Jackson Carman about coming to Clemson. Now that I have announced my decision I am already working on getting some of the other top players in the nation to join us at Clemson,” said Thomas.

There is a sense of relief for Thomas now that he has made his decision.

“It is a lot of stress and relief off my back. I can focus on helping recruit people to Clemson and already know where I will be signing in December,” he said.

The five-star defensive end has already built a strong relationship with the nation’s top offensive player, quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

“With me and Trevor Clemson will now have the No. 1 offensive and defensive players. We have know the opportunity we will have here at Clemson. Now a lot of other players will come here for the same opportunity,” said Thomas.

When did Thomas make his decision he was going to commit to Clemson?

“I made my decision a couple of weeks ago. That is why I took my visit last week to South Carolina to make sure and I knew Clemson is where I want to be,” said Thomas.
