Recruit reactions: 5-star Thomas's commitment

Clemson got a big-time commitment from one of the nation’s best players when Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas committed to the Tigers on Saturday.

The Clemson Insider reached out to some of his fellow 2018 commits and Clemson’s 2017 signees for their reactions to the huge addition:

Chase Brice, QB, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson:

“I was definitely shocked to hear that he committed to be honest, but I know he’s a guy Clemson has been on strong and I’ve heard nothing but great things about his ability. Excited that he decided to be a part of the family!”

Braden Galloway, TE, Seneca (S.C.):

“I mean the guy’s a stud. I’m glad he decided Clemson. It doesn’t get any better than that! He’s a big guy, and he’s so quick for his position. That makes him tough to block and contain.”

Mike Jones, LB, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy:

“I deserve a recruiter of the year award.”

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Cartersville (Ga.):

“Awesome. We needed him a lot.”

Justin Mascoll, DE, Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett:

“I feel like it was a shocker to be honest but I am happy for him and I just know that it was a great decision. I was just pumped the whole day. Big things are on the rise…”

Amari Rodgers, WR, Knoxville (Tenn.) Knoxville Catholic:

“It’s great that we have two of the top three players in the country and it will definitely help us out in the long run. Xavier is a great player and I’m looking forward to playing with him.”

A.J. Terrell, CB, Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake:

“That’s a big commit for us. Now my job is going to be even easier.”

Jake Venables, LB, Central (S.C.) Daniel:

“Crazy day for us, but very happy for X and excited he’s a part of the brotherhood.”
