Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward four-star receiver Kevin Austin announced an offer from Clemson last weekend.
Brent Venables stopped by his school last week to convey the offer.
“My coach was saying that (Venables) said I have the kind of size, and what my film projects, that I’m the kind of guy they’re looking for,” Austin told The Clemson Insider.
Austin (6-3, 190) also has offers from Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Southern Cal, Tennessee and UCLA among others.
He announced Duke, Miami, Notre Dame and Tennessee as his finalists last month and plans to make his decision sometime this summer.
After offering, Clemson is hoping to enter the equation late.
“My coaches and my family, we’re going to talk about it, just consider if Clemson is going to be a fifth spot in my decision, to see if we can invest our time into them this late into the process,” Austin said.
Miami and Notre Dame are the perceived best bets to land Austin, who has some thinking to do now that Clemson is in the picture.
“They’re always competing and they’re always up there in the top four, top two,” he said of what he knows and likes about the Tigers. “They have a great wide receiver almost every year, they have a great quarterback, and their offensive system, it’s very balanced and seems to work.”
ESPN and Rivals rank Austin as a top-25 receiver and top-150 prospect in the 2018 class.
As a junior, he caught 43 passes for 713 yards and 12 touchdowns.
