Recruits react to Clemson's No. 1 ranking

Clemson is ranked No. 1 in this week’s College Football Playoff Committee rankings, which were released Tuesday night.

This is the seventh time the Tigers have sat atop the Playoff Committee’s rankings since the rankings began in 2014. The Tigers were ranked No. 1 for all six weeks in the 2015 CFP Committee rankings before losing to Alabama in the national championship game that year.

After the rankings were released, The Clemson Insider reached out to a number of Clemson’s commits and other recruits for their reactions to the Tigers being back on top:

Clemson commit Xavier Thomas, 2018 5-star DE, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy: “Just remarkable man. To prove everyone wrong every season is great. Everyone thought we would fall after the last senior class left which was one of the best with Deshaun and company. We proved everybody wrong and will be playing in the playoffs for the third year in a row after we dominate Miami! And we will be even better next year!”

Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence, 2018 5-star QB, Cartersville (Ga.): “Awesome! Feel like they have proven themselves.”

Clemson commit Mike Jones, 2018 4-star LB, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy: “It’s great to see us at No. 1 but I’m more excited about seeing where we’re at come next week.”

Clemson commit Jake Venables, 2018 4-star LB, Central (S.C.) Daniel: “WE BELONG AT THE TOP!!!’

Clemson commit Darnell Jefferies, 2018 4-star DT, Covington (Ga.) Newton: “We work to be number one. Even losing to Syracuse, we came back to the drawing board, fixed our mistakes and got better as a team.”

Clemson commit Josh Belk, 2018 4-star DT, Richburg (S.C.) Lewisville: “I feel like it’s great. They deserve it with the work that they put in.”

Clemson commit Kyler McMichael, 2018 4-star DB, Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian: “I love it. The boys and staff deserve it with all the hard work put into this season.”

Clemson commit B.T. Potter, 2018 K, Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe: “It’s amazing! Back on top for good.”

Clemson commit Braden Galloway, 2018 TE, Seneca (S.C.): “I was stoked. I mean all of them have worked hard all year, and they are playing the best football that they’ve played all year, and they deserve every bit of the No. 1 spot. I’m glad everything fell into place at the right time!”

Clemson commit Brannon Spector, 2019 ATH, Calhoun (Ga.): “I think it’s pretty awesome!”

Jaylin Simpson, 2019 4-star DB, Saint Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy: “I feel like they are a top-four team. They deserve it. They are playing good ball.”

Ramel Keyton, 2019 4-star WR, Marietta (Ga.): “That’s where they belong.”

Cam’Ron Kelly, 2019 4-star DB, Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith: “I love it. Well deserved!”

Tyler Venables, 2020 ATH, Central (S.C.) Daniel: “Well deserved, but rankings don’t mean much until after conference championships.”
