Keith Maguire recaps his junior day visit to Clemson

Class of 2019 linebacker Keith Maguire has been one of the hottest prospects in the Mid-Atlantic over the past couple of months, hauling in offers from Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M and many others.

After receiving an offer from the Tigers in mid-February, the Malvern (Pa.) Prep star made the 10-plus hour trip to Clemson for its junior day this past weekend.

Maguire arrived on campus with his mother Friday, stayed through Saturday and didn’t leave disappointed.

“It was fun,” Maguire told The Clemson Insider. “I spent a lot of time with the coaches and met some players while down there. So, it was definitely worth the trip… It was a good weekend overall.”

Maguire (6-2, 215) couldn’t pinpoint one highlight of the visit in particular. He was simply glad to get his eyes on Clemson in person for the first time.

“I think just being able to get down there and see it with my own eyes, that was probably the highlight,” he said. “I think just being down there, getting to see the campus, the dorms, the facilities, the stadium, everything. The whole day was a highlight.”

One part of the visit Maguire especially enjoyed, though, was meeting with head coach Dabo Swinney.

“Sitting down with coach Swinney was good,” he said. “Talking with him for a little bit, that was definitely a good part of the visit.”

“He expressed how they were very interested in me and would love to get me back down and hope that I enjoyed the weekend,” Maguire added. “He just thanked me for being down.”

Clemson’s facilities, specifially the football operations complex, didn’t fail to impress Maguire either.

“It was beautiful,” he said. “It’s got everything and more that you could ask for. It’s definitely something special they have down there. It definitely catches your eye and makes you think about Clemson even more.”

Maguire also recently attended a junior day at Notre Dame, and a visit to Ohio State in two weeks is on the schedule.

A return trip to Clemson with his father is on Maguire’s mind, too, and it may not be too long before that happens.

“I’ll probably be going down to Clemson soon with my dad because he wasn’t able to make it this weekend,” Maguire said. “So, probably sometime in April I want to go back down.”

Magure wants to take his official visits in the fall and anticipates making one of those to Clemson. He hopes to have his college decision out of the way before his senior season begins.

Clemson made a lasting impression on Maguire during his first visit there, and the Tigers appear too have staying power in his recruitment.

“I think that being down there and being able to talk to the coaches definitely made me think more about Clemson,” he said. “I’d say it’s definitely going to be one of my top two choices (in the end) I’d think.”

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Maguire holds offers from Nebraska, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Pittsburgh and Duke, among others.
