Byrd hits one out

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Clemson cut into the Notre Dame lead in the fifth inning Saturday, but could have had more.

With one out Grayson Byrd hit a solo home run to right with the help of the wind.

Kier Meredith followed with his first hit as a Tiger with a triple to right centerfield. Meredith tried to come home on a fly ball to right, but was tagged out at home plate.

After the top of the fifth, the Irish still led 3-2.
