Crownover leads Clemson over Louisville

Clemson, SC – The Tigers whipped No. 3 Louisville 9-1 Saturday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore  Stadium.

Matthew Crownover had another  outstanding game for the Tigers going 7.0 innings and only giving up five hits, one run and one earned  run.  Alex Bostic pitched the final two innings for the Tigers and gave up two hits and no runs.

“You never know what to expect coming out of exams.  This was one of the better games we have played.  I thought Matthew Crownover continues to do his thing.  He was really good with men on base,” said coach Leggett.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in first.  Eli White was hit by a pitch.  Steven Duggar singled to advance White to second.  White went to third on a fly ball from Krieger.  Reed Rohlman singled to score White.  Chris Okey reached on a fielder’s choice.  Chase Pinder singled to score Duggar.  Wilson singled to score Okey and Clemson led 3-0.

In the bottom of the third Clemson plated two more runs.  Tyler Krieger doubled down the left field line to leadoff.  Reed Rohlman singled to left to score Krieger.  Weston Wilson beat out an infield single to score Rohlman and put the Tigers  up 5-1.

Louisville got on the board with a run in the sixth.

The Tigers added some insurance in the  seventh.  Andrew Cox walked to start the inning.  Steven Duggar doubled to score Cox.  Tyler Krieger walked.  With two outs Chris Okey was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Chase Pinder was hit by a pitch to score Duggar.  Weston Wilson singled to score Krieger  and Okey and Clemson led 9-1.

Clemson moved to 24-21 overall and 13-11 in the ACC with the win.  The Tigers and Cardinals play game two Sunday at 6:30 PM.
