The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still a couple of months away.
With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player on the Clemson roster.
S [autotag]Korrin Wiggins[/autotag], Durham, N.C. – Junior
On signing day during his junior year at Durham-Hillside, Wiggins and his teammate, running back Khris Francis, committed to newly-minted UNC coach Larry Fedora.
Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell offered the duo a few weeks later. Caldwell also extended offers to fellow 2013 prospect Josh McNeil, a tight end, and 2014 wide receiver Trevion Thompson.
Despite his pledge to the Tar Heels, Wiggins took immediate an interest. In April, he and Thompson visited Clemson for the Orange and White spring game.
“Clemson is a great place, a great school,” Wiggins said, after the visit. “The paw is recognized everywhere. They want me. I have to want them back. They’re not going to beg me to come to Clemson.
“They like the way I play. They like that I’m versatile — I can play corner and safety, and some nickel and some dime.”
The Tigers were then listed as second on his list. Things died down for a few months, but Wiggins renewed his interest as the end of the calendar year approach.
At Shrine Bowl practice in Spartanburg, Wiggins told reporters he was considering three schools: UNC, Clemson and Ohio State.
Clemson’s pursuit of the three-star prospect did get a little dicey after Dabo Swinney parted ways with defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison. However, before Wiggins’ official visit in January, Mike Reed was brought on board as Harbison’s successor.
On signing day — Feb. 6, 2013 — Wiggins flipped from UNC to Clemson, joining four others as signing day additions to the Tigers’ 2013 haul.
