TCI Open Draft – Round 11

By Staff Reports

The dog days of summer are upon us. To help pass the time, the staff at The Clemson Insider is picking sides.

Along with publisher Robert MacRae, staff writers Will Vandervort, William Qualkinbush and Hale McGranahan are drafting players from the Clemson roster to fill out their own teams.

Here’s how the 11th round of the TCI Open Draft played out:

William Qualkinbush

No pick

Robert MacRae

11th Round (41st overall) – Cordrea Tankersley, CB (6-1, 195)

With the 41st pick I select Cordrea Tankersley. I am now set with two of the top three corners on the
team with Fields and Tankersley.

Going into camp last year Tankersley held one of the starting corner spots. He played well last year when given his opportunities. Now is the time for Tankersley to take his game to the next level. If he does he will be a significant contributor this season to a very good Clemson secondary.

Hale McGranahan

11th Round (42nd overall) – Shadell Bell, WR (6-3, 200)

In need of another play-maker on the outside, I turn to the guy who I think is one of the most natural pass catchers we’ve seen at Clemson since DeAndre Hopkins. Bell snatches the ball out of the air in a similar way.

Coupled with Charone Peake, the fastest guy on the entire Clemson roster, I’ve got good size at the position, too. Bell will also provide a big, physical presence in the red zone.

Will Vandervort

11th Round (43rd overall) – Zach Giella, OT (6-5, 275)

With my 11th pick and No. 43 overall, I take offensive tackle Zach Giella.

Giella, who enrolled in school in January, will be my right tackle opposite Mitch Hyatt on the left side of the line. That gives me two true freshmen at my tackle positions, but it gives me two guys who can grow with my quarterback, who is also a true freshman, while learning the offense at the same time.

Giella was the No. 31 offensive tackle in the country according to ESPN coming out of high school. He is raw, coming out of Augusta Christian Schools in Lincolnton, Ga. He is one of the more athletic players on the offensive line as he played basketball and baseball in high school as well, plus was a member of the track team.
