Powell sets four official visits

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Cornell Powell[/autotag] committed to Clemson in February. On Thursday, he announced official visit dates to four schools.

Georgia – Sept. 9

Oklahoma – Oct. 10

Ohio State – Oct. 17

Clemson – Nov. 7

Despite the three trips to schools not named [autotag]Clemson[/autotag], Powell told TheClemsonInsider on Thursday that he’s firm with his pledge to the Tigers.

“I’m 100 percent Clemson,” Powell said.

Ranked by Scout as the No. 33 wide receiver in the class of 2016, Powell broke down his four official visit destinations.

Georgia: Coach (Brian Schottenheimer), he’s a great guy. We’ve been communicating. I want to get down there and see the campus and stuff.

Oklahoma: I’m going out to Oklahoma because coach Lincoln (Riley), he was at ECU my freshman and sophomore year when I was at Rose. He’s recruiting me hard and we formed a bond. We formed a bond and then he (moved) to Oklahoma. Recently, we reconnected and we’ve been talking, so he’s a great coach and I went to get out there to see him and the campus.

Ohio State: Ohio State is national champions and I want to get up there and see how they operate and see how the campus is. I think it will be exciting to get up there.

Clemson: I want to get up to Clemson because it’s a great place. Every time I go there, I’ve loved it, I’ve loved it more. I love all the coaches up there, so I’m just ready to get up there.

Powell has been in touch with the Clemson staff about his other visits.

“Just been talking about me going to other places and stuff, nothing too serious,” he said.

For his high school career, Powell has 138 receptions for 2,744 yards and 43 touchdowns. He’s completed 44 of 99 passes for 778 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions. On the ground, Powell has 579 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
