Despite Swinney’s absence Tigers continue to work

Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, defensive coordinator Brent Venables and several players had Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney in their thoughts and prayers as they participated in their first two-a-day session of fall camp on Monday, but Swinney’s absence did not mean there was a drop in production.

“I have not really sensed it. There has been great energy. This is an impressive bunch,” Elliott said. “They are blue collar. They like to work. There has been really good focus today. They did get a break with the weather a little bit, but they have been focused, and they understand there is still an expectation. Coach Swinney let them know prior to him departing to go be with his family, nothing changes. They know the standard and we as coaches have to hold them to that standard.”

Swinney is in Alabama today and Tuesday morning following the passing of his father, Ervil Swinney, who passed away on Saturday after losing his bout with cancer. The Tigers’ head coach is expected to return to Clemson late on Tuesday evening.

Clemson’s coaching staff is scheduled to fly out tonight to be there for their head coach.
