Andrew Coker went 20-2 during his sophomore and junior years at Hartsville High School.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed pitcher played a big part in the Red Foxes’ Lower State titles in 2014 and 2015.
Now a senior, Coker will take his talents to Clemson next year. He committed to pitch for Monte Lee earlier this month after a stellar showing at the Palmetto Games.
“I went up there with coach Lee, who I love as a coach. I can’t wait to play for him. I like the whole atmosphere at Clemson. It feels like a family. I’ve grown up a Tiger my whole life. Can’t wait to play for them. I feel like it was the right fit for me,” Coker said, during a recent interview with TheClemsonInsider.
Interest from Clemson picked up when Lee saw Coker throw at the Palmetto Games.
“He told me a few days later to come on a visit. I visited a couple of other schools, but I felt Clemson was the place I needed to be,” Coker said.
South Carolina and The Citadel also offered, along with a number of Division II and junior colleges.
Coker is excited about his future in Kingsmore Stadium, but he also looks forward to being a fan in Death Valley.
“Everywhere you go when you get to Clemson, there’s orange everywhere. I mean, I’ve been to a couple of other stadiums to watch away games and it doesn’t compare to Clemson. It’s a fun place to be on Saturdays,” Coker said.
