Spurrier finished at South Carolina according to reports

Steve Spurrier’s tenure as University of South Carolina head football coach could be over, according to several reports attributed to sources.

SportsIllustrated.com reporter Thayer Evans first reported that Spurrier would be retiring as head coach.

The Football Scoop, a site with ties deep in the coaching community, followed with a confirmation, reporting.

The Scoop said Spurrier’s departure would be immediate and  that an interim coach would be named Tuesday morning.

The State reports that G.A. Mangus will be named interim coach.  Alex Marvez and NFL Insider for Fox Sports is reporting that Shawn Elliott will be the interim coach.
