Four-star DE feels the love

While he was in town for Saturday’s game against Boston College, four-star defensive end Malik Herring spoke with three Clemson coaches.

Dabo Swinney, Brent Venables and Marion Hobby all caught up with the 6-foot-3, 250-pound prospect. Herring told TheClemsonInsider what each coach said to him.

Swinney: “He wants me to be there. I’m a perfect fit for them. I’m a really big prospect for them and they’re trying to recruit me with all they’ve got.”

Venables: “If I worked hard, he could see me playing early for them and I’m a perfect fit for their defense.”

Hobby: “He was saying pretty much the same thing. Every time he would look at me and say, ‘Hey, did I ever tell you that I really want to coach you?’ I really liked that.”

Herring called it a great trip.

“I loved every bit of it,” he said.

The environment was “crazy.”

“They did something with everybody’s phone lights in the stadium. Everybody lit up their phone light and it was going across the stadium, I’d never seen that and it was so amazing. Their fans are so into the game,” Herring said.

This weekend, he’ll head to Tennessee or Ole Miss. Auburn will host him next weekend. He’s undecided about where he’ll head on Nov. 7: Clemson-FSU or Alabama-LSU.

Georgia, Florida State and Tennessee have already hosted Herring for visits this season.

“Everything is equal right now. Every college that is recruiting me, they all have a pretty good shot,” he said.

This season, Herring has 50 tackles, five sacks, three pass breakups and seven quarterback hurries.
