Clemson’s 2016 signing class is close to completion, but a few big-name prospects remain on the radar.
The Clemson class includes 11 commitments, plus two holdovers from the 2015 haul: LaSamuel Davis and Brian Dawkins, Jr.
TheClemsonInsider takes a look at the five most wanted 2016 targets for Clemson. This list is in alphabetical order:
OL Tremayne Anchrum – Powder Springs, Ga. – McEachern
A decision was in the works for the three-star, who was thought to be down to Colorado and Nebraska. Anchrum had already taken official visits to the two schools before he showed up to Clemson a couple of weeks ago for the Georgia Tech game. Exactly which way he’s leaning is still up in the air, but a decision will have to be reached soon since he’s scheduled to graduate in December.
DT Dexter Lawrence – Wake Forest, N.C.
Lawrence has taken several visits this season. He’s already taken unofficials to N.C. State and Alabama. Florida’s hosted him for an official. Clemson is set to host him for an official next month for the Florida State game. Ohio State is scheduled for another one two weeks after Clemson. The five-star visited Clemson with his brother in late August. Like Anchrum, Lawrence will graduate in December.
WR Diondre Overton – Greensboro, N.C. – Page
Clemson already has a pair of wide receivers committed to the 2016 class in T.J. Chase and Cornell Powell. Since the summer, Overton has been the only non-committed wide receiver on the Tigers’ board. The four-star prospect made his first game day trip to Clemson for the Notre Dame game. He’s scheduled to see the Tigers play again next week at N.C. State. Along with Clemson and N.C. State, Tennessee, UNC and Nebraska are also listed among the favorites. A decision will be reached in December at the Semper Fidelis All-American game.
OL John Simpson – Fort Dorchester
Last month, Simpson told TCI that he was planning to take all five of his official visits before coming up with a decision. Clemson has long been considered as the team to beat, but several SEC schools are still in the mix, including Florida, Tennessee, LSU and South Carolina. Simpson was scheduled to have him on campus for the Notre Dame game, but the weather prevented him from making the trip up from North Charleston. Simpson is scheduled to visit for the Florida State game. Simpson is planning to announce his decision at the U.S. Army All-American game.
LB Rahshaun ‘Shaq’ Smith – Baltimore, Md. – IMG Academy
The former Clemson commitment has already taken official visits to Oregon and LSU. Trips to Auburn and Maryland are before his December official to Clemson. Smith is scheduled to graduate in December and play in the Under Armour All-American game in January.
