Tigers in the NFL, Week 6

TCI has a full rundown of how Clemson’s NFL alumni performed in Week 6…

New Orleans 31, Atlanta 21

NO: Stephone Anthony—6 tackles (4 solo), PBU

C.J. Spiller—3 car, 10 yds; 5 tgts, 4 rec, 17 yds

Anthony continues to rack up tackles and get involved all over the field in a young Saints defense. Every broadcaster raves about how well he moves and makes plays in space. Spiller got seven touches out of the backfield, which seems like about the norm for him now. His 27 yard output isn’t horrible, but it also doesn’t turn any heads.

ATL: Vic Beasley—3 tackles (2 solo)

Grady Jarrett—1 assisted tackle

Neither Beasley nor Jarrett have become primary playmakers on the Falcons’ improved defense. There is a bit of frustration building with Beasley’s inability to get off the edge consistently, while Jarrett is entrenched as a rotation piece and isn’t expected to produce at a high efficiency level.

Cincinnati 34, Buffalo 21

CIN: Brandon Thompson—1 assisted tackle, 0.5 sack

Thompson has been dealing with injuries for a few weeks, but he was in on a sack in Sunday’s game. When healthy, Thompson is a major part of Cincy’s defensive tackle rotation.

BUF: Jonathan Meeks—2 tackles (1 solo)

Sammy Watkins—5 tgts, 4 rec, 48 yds, TD

Meeks has bounced between the practice squad and the active roster this season. He made a couple of plays on Sunday in limited action. After bellyaching about his touches last week, Watkins was on his way to a fine afternoon until he hurt himself on a 22-yard touchdown catch. His status moving forward is unknown.

Detroit 37, Chicago 34 (OT)

CHI: Jarvis Jenkins—1 assisted tackle, 0.5 sack

Jenkins registered half of a sack in the game, a continuance of his dominant early-season play. That dominance has been particularly noteworthy in his pass rush, where the local product has disrupted opposing passing games with regularity.

Miami 38, Tennessee 10

TEN: Coty Sensabaugh—3 tackles (2 solo), INT, PBU

Sensabaugh’s highlight of the day was an interception of Ryan Tannehill over the middle of the field late in the first half. The nickel cornerback now has a pair of interceptions this season after going without one for his first three seasons as a pro.

NY Jets 34, Washington 20

NYJ: Marcus Gilchrist—3 tackles (2 solo), INT, 2 PBU

Gilchrist had the best game of anyone on the Jets’ roster, according to Pro Football Focus. He has become a quality starter in the NFL and will continue to get opportunities as quarterbacks try to force the ball into tight coverage windows against his teammates.

WSH: Bashaud Breeland—4 tackles (3 solo), INT, 2 PBU

Breeland will sometimes give up big plays, but he can make them, too. He forced a fumble and picked off a pass in Sunday’s game, and the interception was particularly impressive considering a diving effort was necessary to catch the errant pass.

Pittsburgh 25, Arizona 13

PIT: Martavis Bryant—8 tgts, 6 rec, 137 yds, 2 TD; 1 car, 8 yds

Bryant dominated in his first game of action this season. His 88-yard catch-and-run in the fourth quarter was basically the nail in the coffin for the Cardinals, and he added an eight-yard scoring catch in the third quarter that gave the Steelers the lead.

ARI: Jaron Brown—4 tgts

Chandler Catanzaro—2-3 FG, 1-1 XP; 1 tackle

Andre Ellington—1 car, 7 yds; 2 tgts, 2 rec, 37 yds

Brown was thrown at in this game, but he could not manage a catch. Catanzaro had a rare miss, but he also banged home a pair of field goals. His status as one of the NFL’s best kickers remains unchanged. Ellington continues to work his way back from injury in a crowded Arizona backfield.

Houston 31, Jacksonville 20

HOU: DeAndre Hopkins—15 tgts, 10 rec, 148 yds, 2 TD

Hopkins became the first receiver in NFL history to catch at least nine passes for at least 145 yards in three consecutive games. It’s old news by now that he is one of the most valuable players in the league.

JAC: Andre Branch—2 tackles, PBU

Branch has struggled to shake some nagging injuries, so just being in the lineup is a nice change of pace for him. The defensive end had a couple of tackles and managed to knock down a pass, as well.

San Francisco 25, Baltimore 20

SFO: Bradley Pinion—4 punts, 38 avg

Pinion’s average wasn’t as high in this one, but he was effective. One of his punts went inside the 20-yard line, and another one crept into the end zone for a touchback.

New England 34, Indianapolis 27

IND: Dwayne Allen—3 tgts, 3 rec, 23 yds

The Colts are still working to integrate all of the pieces in their passing game, so Allen’s role can fluctuate. He should approach a handful of targets in most weeks as a trusted every-down option for Andrew Luck.

Philadelphia 24, NY Giants 7

Byron Maxwell: 6 tackles (5 solo)

The Eagles’ secondary benefited greatly from the Giants’ inability to protect Eli Manning, and Maxwell enjoyed one of his better games in Philly on Monday night. He still didn’t make any plays on the football, but a half-dozen tackles in coverage speaks for itself.

Other Rostered Players: Tavaris Barnes (NO), Kourtnei Brown (HOU), Crezdon Butler (SEA), Chris Clemons (ARI), Kavell Conner (SDG), Chris Hairston (SDG), Antoine McClain (ARI), Tony Steward (BUF).

Inactives: Malliciah Goodman (ATL), Tyler Shatley (JAC), Brandon Thomas (SFO), Charlie Whitehurst (TEN).
