5-star continues to mull his options

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Dexter Lawrence is a wanted man.

The five-star defensive tackle wrapped up the final regular season game of his senior year in front of coaches from three of the top programs in college football.

Clemson sent defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks and offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell, who serves as his area recruiter. Alabama was represented by defensive line coach Bo Davis. Larry Johnson, the defensive line coach at Ohio State, also stopped by.

“That was pretty big. I just had to prove myself,” Lawrence said, when asked about the four coaches.

Clearly, he’s already proven enough for them. All three have offered scholarships. And each wants him to suit up for their respective schools.

Lawrence, who will take an official visit to Clemson this weekend, has been on campus in Tigertown three times.

What does he want to see on trip No. 3?

“Just the fan-base. They’re real good. Them running down the hill and just seeing if I can try and get a feel there.”

Florida’s already had him in for an official. Ohio State will get him in two weeks. Alabama and Arkansas could receive officials, too. The local schools, NC State and UNC, are also in the mix for his signature, but proximity will probably keep him from taking official visits to Raleigh and Chapel Hill.

Lawrence will keep a number of factors in mind as he works towards a decision.

“Just the relationship I get with the coaches. Their plan to get me better as a player and an individual. The best education program that fits my major,” he said.

On Dec. 14, Lawrence plans to announce his decision.
