Clemson ranked No. 1 in first College Playoff Poll

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said he does not care about the first College Football Playoff Poll, but a lot of other people do.

With that said, Clemson is ranked No. 1 in the first CFB Playoff Poll released on Tuesday by the College Football Playoff Committee. The Tigers will put that ranking on the line this Saturday when it hosts No. 16 Florida State in Death Valley at 3:30 p.m.

Clemson is ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time since it won it all in 1981. This is just third time Clemson has been No. 1 in any poll. Last two polls of 1981 season only other times. Saturday will mark the first time Clemson will play a regular season game as the No. 1 team in the country.

“It’s always high praise when you are put at the top,” Clemson running back Wayne Gallman said. “But at the same time you have to keep your mind straight and having a good head on you, because all of this stuff is really big that we are going into, and this is something we have been dreaming about, but there are things that can happen.

“We have to have that straight forward focus. We have to go out and focus today and not worry about anything else.”
