Unofficial reactions

Among the many highly-recruited visitors for Saturday’s game against Florida State were a number of unofficial guests from the 2016 class.

South Carolina commitments J.J. Givens and Bryan Edwards visited — Edwards from Conway and Givens from Mechanicsville, Va.

“That atmosphere was crazy, man. I loved it,” Givens said. “I went with my girlfriend and my mom and they loved it, too. So, overall, I got that tradition feeling. The running down the hill.

“That’s my first time at Clemson, so I got that whole feel, the full effect. There were a lot of recruits there, too. So it just shows how highly-rated Clemson is considered. Honestly, I think it was a great experience.”

Givens will taken an official to Wisconsin next weekend before heading to Columbia for the Clemson-South Carolina game later in the month.

A Clemson official hasn’t been arranged.

“That’s currently in the works, right now,” Givens said “I’m trying to find a good time to pop down, because I want to spend as much time as possible talking with the coaches. It’s in the works, I would say, but nothing is set in stone. But it’s definitely under consideration.”

Back again: Diondre Overton has been to Clemson several times in 2015. Saturday was the second game day visit for the four-star wide receiver from Greensboro-Page.

“Getting back down there, it was great. The crowd was really into it. It was the loudest crowd that I’ve ever seen,” he said.

Overton saw Clemson play last weekend when the Tigers were in Raleigh playing NC State. Both school are among his finalists.

“Every time I go down there, the coaches, they know me well,” he said of Clemson. “They’re trying to get me to come down. I have a good relationship with a lot of the coaches there. They’re trying hard to get me back down there and trying to get me to commit there.”

Getting down to business: Fort Dorchester four-star offensive lineman John Simpson will take an official visit to LSU next weekend and he’s planning to make one down to Florida, too. Beyond those two, he’s yet to make any further visit plans.

A decision will be announced at the U.S. Army All-American game.

“I’m basically looking for a coaching staff that stays in contact with me. I don’t want to go to a college that I haven’t really talked to the coaching staff or anything like that,” Simpson said.

He added, “I want to stay in contact with the coaching staff.”

To be determined: Saturday was the first visit to Clemson for Charlotte-Vance three-star safety Myles Dorn.

“The atmosphere was great, college town, a family atmosphere within the players and coaches,” he said.

UNC will host him for an official visit next weekend. Ohio State will have him in two weeks. He’s already taken one to West Virginia.

Dorn, who will graduate from high school in December, is still mulling a return to Clemson for an official.

“I’m not sure yet. We’ll see when my decision is made,” he said.
