Clemson remained the No. 1 team in the country by the College Football Playoff Committee, which released its top 25 rankings on Tuesday. This is the second straight week the Tigers are ranked No. 1.
Earlier this week Clemson was also ranked as the No. 1 team by the Associated Press, and No. 2 by the Coaches in their poll.
“I had a chance to be there and watch that (Florida State) game, and if there is a difference right now in all of these teams, and you are splitting hairs, it is Deshaun Watson,” said ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit during the College Football Playoff: Top 25 Show. “I always kind of lean towards those quarterbacks that are special, and Deshaun Watson is that guy when it comes to Clemson.
“He just does not get freaked out in any moment, and in fact, I think he is at his best when the pressure is the greatest. Clemson is a great team, but he really takes them to that next level of being a special ball club.”
Watson was 28 of 42 for 297 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers’ win over No. 16 Florida State last Saturday. He also rushed for a career-high 107 yards.
Watson has completed 69.7 percent of his passes so far this season for 2,333 yards and 21 touchdowns. He is second on the team with 493 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
