POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. — There was a time when Tremayne Anchrum Jr. couldn’t have pictured what happened on Thursday afternoon.
Before a gathering of family, friends and teammates, the three-star offensive lineman from McEachern High School committed and signed to play for Clemson. He’ll enroll in January.
“It just gives me a better tactical advantage, not just in the sport, but in school, so I can come to school and get better acclimated to the program for study habits and social life, but also to get ahead in the weight room,” Anchrum said. “I get an extra semester to get my body to where I want it to be, trim some fat and build some muscle, meet the coaches and learn the playbook, just get better acclimated, so when it comes time, I will be ready.”
At McEachern, Anchrum plays right tackle. Last season, he plater left tackle.
Head coach Kyle Hockman moved hin from left to right when Chuma Edoga left for USC. Hockman’s quarterback is a lefty. It’s also his son. Bailey, a 2017 prospect, is committed to play for Georgia.
Anchrum believes his future at Clemson will be at tackle.
“They said I could move inside to center a little bit, but I can cross-train tackle and center,” he said.
Several factors attracted him to Clemson.
“Just the atmosphere in general. It’s an amazing place to be,” Anchrum said. “The people, the fans, the students, teachers, it’s so diverse. I’ve gone to practice and seen certain type of people. When I go to Clemson, I see a diversity of people and characteristics and personalities. It’s like, wow, this amazing.
“What coach Dabo (Swinney) has done with the program, there’s a plan. There’s a step-by-step and how it’s supposed to come up.”
And he’s happy to say that he’ll be apart of that process for the next four years.
“It’s so surreal. It’s like a dream,” Anchrum said. “I never knew where life was taking me and it took me here. Through hard work and trust in God, it brought me to this point in time, and the support from my family.”
