Elliott talks Anchrum

Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott spoke with TCI on Monday afternoon about the Tigers’ latest commitment.

Because Tremayne Anchrum Jr. faxed his financial aid agreement paperwork last week, Elliott was permitted to discuss the third offensive line pledge to the 2016 class.

“If you go and watch his film, he’s very, very athletic. Very, very, very physical.

Just off the field, very focused young man. Reminds me a lot of Mitch Hyatt,” Elliott said. “Mitch wants to be an engineer. (Anchrum) wants to be a meteorologist. Kind of already has his plan already mapped and I think that’s the difference between the guys that come and have success early and the guys that have to develop a little bit.

“The guys that have to focus, they know what they want. They understand the level of preparation that it takes to get there.”

Anchrum committed to Clemson over Nebraska and Colorado.

“I think he’s going to fall right in there with a guy that’s going to compete early,” Elliott said. “Because, one, he’s got the ability and I think he’s got the right mindset, and he’s got the toughness as well.

“He comes from a great football program at McEachern that’s going to have him prepared the day he comes on (campus). He’s not going to be overwhelmed by the transition. He’s played at the highest level in the state of Georgia. He’s blocked some of the guys that are stars in the SEC and the ACC already, so he’s not going to be intimidated, and he’s going to be prepared from the level of coaching that he’s had.”

When Anchrum arrives in January, his first look will be at tackle, but the Clemson staff thinks he could play guard, too.

“We believe he’s an offensive tackle, because he’s got great length. He reminds us of Brandon Thomas,” Elliott said. “Very, very similar body-type and athleticism as Brandon Thomas and Brandon Thomas played all over the board for us. Primarily started at right tackle for us and played a little bit inside.”
