Mass. TE impressed with Clemson

Alex Marshall wants to take his talents down South.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound tight end from Andover, Mass. visited Clemson last week for the Wake Forest game. Though the Tigers haven’t offered, his second visit to the school left quite an impression.

“I just love how the fans are so passionate and just love Clemson football. I think that’s great,” Marshall said.

Tight ends coach Danny Pearman greeted him as soon as he stepped into the West End Zone complex.

“He talked to my dad and me for like 10 minutes. All of the coaches were definitely showing me love there,” Marshall said. “Don’t want to say too much about the inside, what they said, but I’m hoping they’ll offer. They just said they needed to look at numbers. They said, you’re definitely an offer guy, you’re a guy that’s going to be looking at to offer.

“Coach Pearman was just saying how he’d love to coach me. I was in the locker room before and after the game. It was a great atmosphere in there. With coach (Dabo) Swinney, he has the program going in the right direction. I’m sure they’ll be an unstoppable force. It was a great trip.”

NC State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina and Wake Forest have offered, so have several mid-major schools, including Buffalo, UMass and Ohio.

Clemson, the undefeated, No. 1 team in the country, certainly stands out.

“They’re undefeated at home, so that definitely speaks for itself. They’re just having a great season. In the locker room, I talked to every tight end before the game, was talking to Deshaun (Watson) a little bit,” Marshall said. “That’s kind of what I really had to do, to see which type of guys coach Swinney brings into the program.

“That’s what I said to my dad, they’re bringing in high-character guys that love and are passionate about what they’re doing. That’s the kind of program I’m trying to be in, with passionate, high-character guys that just get the job done, protect one another and have that teammate mentality.”
