Baseball Preview: Position Players

In part two of the TCI 2016 baseball season preview, we take a brief look at the 14 returning position players for the 2016 Clemson baseball squad. Stay tuned to TCI throughout the preseason as we continue breakdown the 2016 roster and 2016 opponents as we lead up to Opening Day on February 19th.

 

#15 Glenn Batson                 INF

Career .219 hitter in 32 games (19 starts)

Has six doubles, a homer, 14 RBI, and is 1-1 on stolen bases in his career

Versatile infielder who has power potential, could contribute as a starter or off the bench

 

#10 K.J. Bryant                    OF

Redshirted in 2015

Will provide outfield depth and could potentially be a starter

Second-team All-American and All-State selection in high school

 

#29 Jackson Campana          1B

Career .333 hitter in four games

Has one double and one RBI for his career

Limited plate appearances, but has power potential that could earn him playing time in 2016

 

#6 Andrew Cox                     OF/1B

Career .221 hitter in 87 games (59 starts)

Has seven doubles, 11 RBI, and is 6-10 on stolen bases for his career

Versatile player who can play both first base and in the outfield

 

#1 Maleeke Gibson               OF

Career .214 hitter in 50 games (26 starts)

Has three doubles, 16 RBI, and is 8-9 on stolen bases for his career

Will provide outfield depth and could potentially get some starts

 

#12 Robert Jolly                  C

Career .351 hitter in 25 games (12 starts)

Has three doubles and eight RBI in his career

Provides depth behind the plate and should again contribute in the DH role

 

#25 Chris Okey                    C

Career .282 hitter in 122 games (122 starts)

Has 25 doubles, two triples, 16 homers, 98 RBI, and is 6-8 on stolen bases for his career

One of team’s best and most vocal leaders, will anchor the offense again in 2016

 

#5 Chase Pinder                   OF/INF

Career .256 hitter in 46 games (46 starts)

Has eight doubles, a triple, three homers, 26 RBI, and is 2-3 on stolen bases for his career

Versatile player who can play infield or outfield, coming off an injury at the end of last year

 

#11 Adam Renwick               INF

Career .200 hitter in 25 games (two starts)

Has a double and one RBI for his career

Provides infield depth and had a strong fall that has him in the mix for a starting spot

 

#26 Reed Rohlman               OF/1B

Career .356 hitter in 61 games (59 starts)

Has 17 doubles, three homers, 58 RBI, and is 3-5 on stolen bases for his career

One of the best hitters last season, could see time in the outfield or at first base in 2016

 

#35 Mike Triller                   OF

Career .250 hitter in 59 games (12 starts)

Has three doubles, eight RBI, and is 4-5 on stolen bases for his career

Roll player who provides outfield depth

 

#13 Drew Wharton               OF/1B

Career .281 hitter in 23 games (five starts)

Has two doubles, eight RBI, and is 2-2 on stolen bases for his career

One of the top bench players in 2015, could compete for starting spot in 2016

 

#4 Eli White                         INF

Career .277 hitter in 89 games (69 starts)

Has nine doubles, three triples, four HR, 31 RBI, and is 12-18 on stolen bases for his career

Starting shortstop in 2015, should hold down the position again in 2016

 

#8 Weston Wilson                 INF

Career .246 hitter in 112 games (101 starts)

Has 14 doubles, a triple, seven homers, 49 RBI, and is 10-15 on stolen bases for his career

Predominantly played third his first two seasons, projected to start at second base in 2016
