Tigers start practice

The 2016 baseball season officially opened on Friday for the Clemson baseball program as the Tigers held a two-hour practice at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson.

“For me, the season starts today,” new Clemson head coach Monte Lee said. “Quite honestly, our guys have come back in great shape. They did a great job of training and staying in good baseball shape over Christmas break. On January 6, when we were able to start conditioning in our skill work segment, our guys hit the ground running.”

Lee said Clemson has all the fundamental work out of the way as it starts practice– the ground balls, the batting practice, the fly balls, catching bullpens and throwing bullpens. Now it is time to cross the white lines and compete.

“It’s time to solidify some jobs for February 19, and getting ready for opening day,” he said.

The Tigers will open the season on Feb. 19 vs. Maine at The Doug. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
