Clemson won with defense on Wednesday

The Clemson basketball team held Boston College to seven field goals in the second half, while limiting the Eagles to 30.4 percent shooting in a 65-54 victory at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville.

The Tigers (16-10, 9-5 ACC) held the Eagles to 1-of-9 shooting from the three-point line in the second half, this after they made 6-of-14 shots in the opening 20 minutes on their way to a 34-31 halftime lead on Clemson.

Clemson guard Avery Holmes held Boston Colleges’ leading scorer, Eli Carter, to five points on 1 of 17 shooting from the field. Carter had averaged 16.1 points a game coming in.

Holmes scored 17 points and dished out five assists in the win. He also had three steals and connected on 7-of-8 free throws. Jaron Blossomgame scored a game-high 23 points and had eight rebounds for Clemson.

The Tigers will travel to Raleigh on Saturday to take on NC State. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
