Thursday morning recruiting notes

Another round of recruiting notes from TheClemsonInsider to help jump start your Thursday morning.

Joining four-star running back Cordarrian Richardson on campus next weekend for the second Junior Day of the year will be four-star wide receiver Amari Rodgers, who was just in town for the first event.

Richardson and Rodgers won’t be the main attractions in town. Xavier Thomas, one of the two best instate prospects for the class of 2018, is scheduled to make his return to Clemson.

Alabama is the most recent offer for the defensive end from Florence-Wilson. South Carolina lured him back to Columbia for another visit earlier this month, to meet with Will Muschamp and the other new coaches on the Gamecocks’ staff.

The state’s other top 2018 prospect, Rock Hill-South Pointe athlete Derion Kendrick, is planning to return to Clemson later this spring. Kendrick told TCI that he’s looking to check out one of the Tigers’ spring practices.

If we’re on the subject of instate prospects from the 2018 cycle, we’d be remiss to not mention Fort Dorchester quarterback/athlete Dakereon Joyner. The state title winning former teammate of John Simpson will also be back on campus this spring.

There’s no confirmation on dates for Kendrick and Joyner.

Speaking of 2018 quarterback targets, Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville, Ga.) recently scooped up an offer from Florida State. Alabama offered last week, Oklahoma earlier this month and Florida popped in late January. Last Saturday, he visited Athens to meet with the new regime at Georgia.
