Dakereon Joyner was back in Tigertown last Wednesday with his former teammate, 2016 Clemson offensive line signee John Simpson.
It was the first Clemson trip of the year for the 2018 quarterback from North Charleston-Fort Dorchester.
“Every time I go up there I have a good time, so I really enjoyed myself,” Joyner said.
He and Simpson arrived early and sat in on a couple of meetings.
“We went inside the team meeting and then after that, we went inside the position meeting. I went with Deshaun (Watson) to the quarterback meeting,” Joyner said. “They went over plays they were going to run in the scrimmage. After that, I hung out with Deshaun inside the locker room until it was time to go. Then I went and watched practice and the scrimmage.”
Joyner liked what he saw from Clemson’s hurry-up, no-huddle offense.
“I was impressed, definitely with the way coach Jeff Scott and Tony Elliott ran the offense…I was really impressed with the plays they were running,” he said. “We run similar plays — I would say the same exact plays, the concepts. Their style, we run the exact same. I really enjoyed it.”
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect was also impressed with Watson.
“He got bigger. He’s huge. His mental aspect of the game was always great,” Joyner said. “He’s even more smooth in the scrimmage — I can tell he’s improving and working every day. His work ethic is hard. He’s a great leader, just a great guy.”
He also enjoyed his time with Elliott and the other Clemson coaches.
“We were just catching up, because I haven’t been up there all year. We don’t really talk recruiting. They know and I know that they really want me up there at Clemson,” Joyner said.
His first visit of the year was to South Carolina. He also plans to hit Georgia, NC State and Virginia Tech over the next couple of months.
As a sophomore, Joyner passed for 3,202 yards and 33 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,059 yards and 19 scores.
