Instant Replay: Clemson 11, Georgia 6

ATHENS, Ga. — The Clemson Insider takes a look back at No. 12 Clemson’s 11-6 comeback win over Georgia on Tuesday night at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.

What happened?

The Tigers (22-7) took the first lead of the game with two runs in the second on a K.J. Bryant RBI single and a bases loaded HBP to Seth Beer to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and Clemson regained the lead in the fourth on a bases loaded walk to Weston Wilson.  Georgia would score two runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead and add another run in the sixth for a 5-3 advantage. Chris Williams answered in the seventh with a two-run shot to tie the game at 5-5 but again the Bulldogs pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning. Beer tied the game with a monster shot over the scoreboard in the eighth and Clemson erupted for five runs in the ninth to take home an 11-6 win.

Game-Changing Moment:

The game changed in the ninth inning. In a tie game, Jordan Greene led off the frame with a walk and moved to second on a sac bunt. Robert Jolly came in to pinch hit and hit a soft roller to third but the Georgia fielder threw the ball away, allowing Jolly to reach and Greene to score the winning run. Following Jolly, four straight singles (from Chase Pinder, Eli White, Chris Okey, and Beer) produced three runs and a ground out from Reed Rohlman pushed the final insurance run across.

What went right?

Pat Krall did his normal thing; shutting down a Georgia rally and earning his fourth win of the season with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Pinder, White, Okey, and Beer each had two hits in Clemson’s 11-hit attack while Beer (3) and Williams (2) each had multi-RBI games.

What went wrong?

Two key errors led to two unearned runs for the Bulldogs. The Tigers went through seven pitchers in the game and walked nine, while offensively they stranded 13 runners (including nine in scoring position).
