Former Clemson safety T.J. Green was selected No. 57 overall in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts in Friday’s 2016 NFL Draft.
Some thought Green could have been selected in the first-round of the draft after producing a 4.3 40-time at the NFL Combine in February. Green will join former Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen in Indianapolis. Allen just signed his second contract with the Colts during the free agency period.
“When he left Clemson, I had him as a fourth-round safety,” NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said. “But when he ran that number, everybody started converting him to corner. He is a 6-foot-2 corner with 4.3 speed.”
In his first year as a starter, Green had 130 tackles to rank third on a defense that finished the 2015 season ranked 10th nationally in total defense. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound safety had five tackles for loss and one sack to go along with three passes broken up.

Green is the third Clemson player to be selected on Friday and the fourth former defensive player selected overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He joins his teammates defensive end Shaq Lawson (19 overall to Buffalo), defensive end Kevin Dodd (33 overall to Tennessee) and cornerback Mackensie Alexander (No. 54 overall to Minnesota).
