Clemson bombs Florida State 10-3

Weston Wilson and Chris Okey both hit three-run homers to lift Clemson over No. 5 Florida State, 10-3 on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

“We hit on all phases today.  It was very good to see us do that.  We scored a lot of runs today.  We had three big innings.  We had some two out hits.  Weston Wilson got us going.  We had back to back two strike hits,” said Monte Lee.

Charlie Barnes got the start for the Tigers and went 4.1 innings giving up six hits, three runs and three earned runs.  Alex Eubanks pitched well in relief going 2.2 innings and only giving up one hit and no runs before the game was stopped for weather.

Clemson almost had the lead in the top of the first.  Chase Pinder reached on a throwing error.  With two outs Seth Beer hit one over the right field wall, but it was caught over the fence.

In the bottom of the third the Tigers wouldn’t be denied.  With two outs Seth Beer singled to right.  Reed Rohlman singled to left field and both advanced on an error.  Weston Wilson hit a three-run homer to right center to put Clemson up 3-0.

Florida State responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game.

In the bottom of the fifth K.J. Bryant singled to start the inning.  Adam Renwick was hit by a pitch.  Chase Pinder singled to right to load the bases.  With one out Chris Okey singled to left to score Bryant and Renwick.  With two outs Reed Rohlman walked to load the bases.  Weston Wilson walked to score Pinder and put the Tigers up 6-3.

Clemson added some insurance in the seventh.  Chris Okey singled, stole second and advanced to third to start.  Seth Beer singled to score Okey and stretch the lead to 7-3.

In the bottom of the eighth Jordan Greene led off with a double.  Chase Pinder walked before Chris Okey hit a three run bomb to the Chapman Grandstands to put Clemson up 10-3.

Three double plays helped end threats from the Noles early in the game.

“Defensively we turned three double plays today.  That has been an area where we haven’t been as good as we wanted to be,” Lee said following the win.

The Tigers moved to 27-14 with the victory and 10-12 in the ACC.  Clemson and Florida State play game two at 1 PM on Sunday.
