Noles whip Tigers 11-2

CLEMSON, SC –  Florida State scored early and often as they defeated Clemson 10-2 Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore.  The Tigers are now 3-8 in their last eleven ACC games.

“It was a tough one out there today.  You have to give Florida State credit,” said Monte Lee.

Clate Schmidt got the start for the Tigers and went 3.2 innings giving up seven hits, five runs and three earned runs.  Alex Bostic relived Schmidt and went 1.1 innings giving up three hits, four runs and three earned runs.  Ryley Gilliam pitched two innings and only gave up one hit and no runs.

In the bottom of the first Clemson plated one run to take the lead.  Chase Pinder singled up the middle.  With two outs Seth Beer singled to advance Pinder to second.  Reed Rohlman doubled to left to score Pinder.

Florida State tied the game with one in the top of the second.  In the top of the third the Noles added two more runs to take a 3-1 lead.

With two on and two outs in the top of the fourth Monte Lee replaced Clate Schmidt with Alex Bostic.  Bostic gave up a single to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Florida State broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fifth.

In the eighth the Noles added another run on a solo home run to make it 10-2.  Another insurance run was added in the ninth.

Clemson fell to 27-15 on the season with the loss and 10-13 in the ACC.  The Tigers and Noles play the deciding game three Monday night at 7 PM.  Following Sunday’s games Clemson will be in ninth place in the ACC.
