Westlake (Atlanta) head coach Bryan Love called Myles Sims out of class on Tuesday to inform him of an offer he received from Clemson.
Since then, Clemson has vaulted into the forefront of contention for the 2018 four-star cornerback.
Along with Clemson, Sims has offers from Auburn, Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and South Carolina.
Asked which schools stand out to him, Sims named one:
“Clemson.”
What does he like about the Tigers in particular?
“Their environment is ecstatic, and their fans are good,” Sims said. “Also, the coaches bond with the players. Pretty much the family bond around there.”
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Atlanta has hooked up with defensive coordinator Brent Venables and defensive backs coach Mike Reed over the phone.
“I’ve been in touch with Coach Venables and Coach Reed,” Sims said. ““We really haven’t been talking much about my position and stuff like that, but they want me to come up to the school.”
Sims says he will visit Clemson down the line, though he is not exactly sure when that will be.
Sims identifies as the type of corner Clemson regularly recruits.
“They like that I’m long and I’m physical, and that I can also cover,” Sims said.
Sims’ summer plans include taking a couple of unofficial visits and attending a pair of camps.
He feels one of his best attributes as a player is pressing at the line, and so he wants to continue honing his skills in coverage.
“A couple strengths of mine would be jamming at the line and messing receivers up because of my wing span,” Sims said, “and something I might want to work on, pretty much down-the-field coverage.”
