He wasn’t there for long, but eyes were on him when he was.
Clemson priority target Malik Herring made an appearance at the Dabo Swinney Football Camp on Wednesday, and the 2017 Forsyth (Ga.) Mary Persons defensive end stood out in his 6-foot-4, 260-pound figure.
It was a short stay for Herring, who worked out with his position group during the morning session but did not participate in the afternoon practice.
This morning, Dabo Swinney spent some one-on-one time talking to Herring during drills.
Clemson is high on Herring’s list, along with Georgia, Alabama, LSU and Southern Cal, to name a few. Kirby Smart was high on Herring while at Alabama and has continued to recruit him heavily as the head coach at Georgia.
Pat Burdette, Herring’s position coach at Mary Persons who accompanied Herring on the trip, spoke with The Clemson Insider on Wednesday and said Clemson’s coaching staff and facilities are a couple of the reasons he likes Clemson.
Herring’s strengths are his size, speed and knowledge of the game, according to Burdette, who would like to see him continue to hone his technique and add a few pass-rushing maneuvers to his skillset over the summer.
Herring has a busy next few days on the docket. He is slated to work out at his school tomorrow before he heads to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta to compete in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
